Hibiki Blender's Choice Whisky Review

Hibiki Blender's Choice was introduced in 2018 as a replacement for the discontinued Hibiki 17 Year Old. This NAS (No Age Statement) whisky blends malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distilleries, featuring components aged in wine casks, which gives it a distinctive fruit-forward profile.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: The aroma is characterized by fresh notes of strawberry, white peach, and pineapple, with a sweet touch reminiscent of crème brûlée​.
• Palate: The palate is rich with a balance of sweetness and pleasant acidity, thanks to the influence of the wine casks, with subtle wood spice adding complexity​.
• Finish: The finish is soft, sweet, and slightly bittersweet, leaving a lingering and complex aftertaste​.

While Hibiki Blender's Choice is often seen as a successor to the Hibiki 17 Year Old, they are distinct in style and composition. The Blender's Choice incorporates more fruity and wine cask-influenced flavors, unlike the 17-year-old, which had deeper mizunara oak characteristics. Therefore, while it fills the gap left by the discontinuation of Hibiki 17, it is not a direct replacement but rather a unique expression in its own right​.
