The Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt is a light and elegant whisky produced in the Miyagi Prefecture, specifically in the Miyagikyo distillery located near Sendai, Japan. Known for its delicate balance of fruity and floral notes, the Miyagikyo Single Malt is a perfect example of Japanese whisky craftsmanship. The distillery uses steam-heated stills, which contribute to the lighter, more refined profile of the whisky.

    Tasting Notes

    • Nose: The aroma opens with hints of vanilla, red apple peel, and a soft floral undertone, complemented by dried fruits such as sultanas and a faint smokiness. There’s also a light presence of exotic fruit and a touch of barley.

    • Palate: On the palate, the whisky has a creamy texture, with flavors of citrus, dried fruits like dates, and subtle spices such as cinnamon and pepper. There’s a hint of marmalade, figs, and a soft peat character, adding complexity.

    About Nikka Whisky

Founded by Masataka Taketsuru, who is considered the father of Japanese whisky, Nikka has played a key role in establishing Japan as a major whisky producer. Taketsuru learned whisky-making in Scotland before returning to Japan to start his own distillery. After a successful stint with Suntory, he founded Nikka in 1934. Today, the company operates the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, producing some of the most revered whiskies in the world. The Miyagikyo distillery, established in 1969, is known for producing malt whiskies that are often softer and fruitier compared to the more robust Yoichi expressions.
